The Bulls Head is the oldest pub in Glossop and over the back door is a stone lintel which bears the date 1607, unfortunately covered over by a modern wooden verandah.
The name of the Bull is thought to have its origins from either the Papal Bull edict of the 13th century requiring that provision be made for travelers in every parish or that it was from the bull baiting that took place on the nearby Castle Hill.
One of the first landlord's to be recorded was Edward Pickford who in 1801 shot 15 balls from a crossbow fired from the Bull's parlor window into the large window on the north side of the church. The court to hear his case was of course held in the Bull.

The "Modern" Bulls Head serves Rusholme curries in the newly converted dining rooms (smoking and none smoking).These are prepared by Rusholme restaurant trained staff from 6,30 pm weekdays and 2.30 pm on Sundays. The pub is a Robinson house and its very cool natural cellar, with a little help from Steve keeps the bitter in fine fettle. Although well supported locally it boasts visitors from all over the world and you can often meet Coronation Street stars who love the authentic hot curries.
