Hawkshead Mill

This is how the factory looked in 1960' a new extension on the left had been built in 1961 by Lowreys of Hyde ( thanks to Dave Hensall for this information) and the remains of the mill pond can also be seen on the front right.
The fields in the workhouse area had not been built on but the workhouse had been converted into a hospital.

This is the now offices for the firm.
The exterior of the house has been carefully restored to its former glory by the present owners of Hawkshead.
Unfortunately the gardens are under threat by developers who want to build several houses there despite being told that they would spoil a lovely a lovely historic Old Glossop area.

This is a picture I was given that shows the flood water that often covers the garden area. I believe it was taken in the late 1960's. In the actual house their was a mark on the stair case that shows the water level to be 14 foot of the 1947 flood.

In the Autum of 2005, the American Firm which had taken over the factory removed all the machinary and shut it down, Despite being offered a reasonable price by several local people who wanted to open it as a industrial concern it is beleived it has been sold to a developer.

Inflamible rubish deliberatly left out.

In Glossop in the past several mills have been burnt down. When rubish and steps are left like this, it makes one wonder if there is an ulterior motive.
